OMMT - Training Structure

From awareness to action: building confident, compassionate care at every level.

Step 1: E-Learning – For all Healthcare Staff

The e-learning forms the foundation of the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training, introducing key topics including autism, learning disability, communication, and person-centred care.

After completing the e-learning, learners will progress to either Tier 1 or Tier 2training depending on their role and level of involvement in care and support.

Step 2: Tier 1 – Online Session

Tier 1 is delivered through a live online training session following completion of the required e-learning. Designed for staff who require a general awareness and understanding of autism and learning disabilities within their role.

Examples may include:

  • Administration staff
  • Non-clinical support roles
  • Staff with limited direct involvement in care

Step 2: Tier 1 – In-Person Session

Tier 2 is delivered as a Full Day. face to face  training session led by accredited trainers and lived experience co-trainers following completion of the required e-learning.

Examples may include:

  • Nurses and healthcare assistants
  • Support workers and carers
  • Receptionists and Pharmacy staff
  • Clinical and frontline healthcare staff
  • Staff directly involved in care or support

Funding Information

Eligible Adult Social Care organisations may be able to claim up to £90 per learner for externally delivered Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training Tier 2 training through the Learning and Development Support Scheme (LDSS).

To claim funding, organisations will usually need an active and up-to-date ASC-WDS (Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set) account managed by Skills for Care.
