The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is the UK’s standardised training programme for all
health and social care staff, developed in line with NHS England guidance. It helps ensure staff have
the right knowledge and skills to support autistic people and people with a learning disability safely,
effectively, and with dignity

Tier 2 is the practical, interactive level of training for staff who provide direct care or support. It goes
beyond awareness and focuses on real-life situations, communication, reasonable adjustments, and
delivering person-centred care in health and social care settings.

Tier 2 is suitable for healthcare professionals, support workers, nurses, carers, and anyone working
directly with autistic people or people with a learning disability. It is designed for anyone who needs
a deeper understanding to support daily care practice.

Oliver McGowan Tier 2 Mandatory Training must be delivered by a certified Tier 2 trainer, in line
with NHS England requirements.

McGowan trainer, Beatriz, alongside an autistic co-trainer and a co-trainer with a learning disability.

The Tier 2 Oliver McGowan training is delivered over one full day. It includes interactive learning,
discussion, and practical examples to support understanding and application in real care
environments.

Yes. Before attending Tier 2 training, learners are expected to complete the Tier 1 e-learning module.
This is usually provided by your employer or accessed through an NHS-approved learning platform.
Tier 1 provides basic awareness, while Tier 2 builds on this knowledge with practical application.

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is delivered in two stages:

Tier 1 (Online Learning): A mandatory e-learning module for all health and social care staff. It
provides essential awareness of autism and learning disabilities.

Tier 2 (Face-to-face or live training): A full-day interactive session for staff who provide direct care
or support.

To complete the full NHS-recommended training pathway, staff must complete both Tier 1 and Tier
2. At Strive Healthcare Solutions Ltd, we deliver Tier 2 training, which builds on Tier 1 knowledge
and focuses on practical application in care settings.
